What Is Social Media Optimization?

Social media optimization is simply blogging on popular social media platforms (like Facebook and LinkedIn) to promote your business links, and it is also blogging on popular blogging communities (such as ProBlogger and CopyBlogger) to brand yourself an authority as well as, to network with other bloggers who share the same 'niche' market in order to cross-promote each other's business links.

These two features alone make social media optimization a powerful tool for online affiliate marketers who apply strategy not only to content writing, but they also apply strategies to promote their links in social media platforms and to cross-promote their links with other network bloggers.  Affiliate marketers simultaneously build their following and gain consumer confidence.  Through content writing on social media networks, affiliate marketers become an 'authority' in their 'niche market.

Social media is the best digital tool to apply to your content writing to boost traffic to your site and to gain a Google Authority for your site url and web pages.

Always SEO each web page in your site using social media share buttons.

It's a pre-requisite for optimum search engine optimization.  It is the best digital tool that can drastically increase search engine traffic to your site.  And best of all, it's FREE.

Of course website owners have relevant content writing in their site, but this isn't enough to boost a decent volume of traffic that converts to sales.  This is one reason why pay per click has cornered the market in network advertising.  But how many people getting started in affiliate marketing can afford a good Adwords campaign?  And in the long-term, pay per click advertising is only a temporary solution to drive search engine traffic to your site.

Social media is the best network advertising tool to use in affiliate marketing.

As a webmaster your site benefits from lasting and long-term traffic so that search engines assign a Google Authority to your site url and pages.  As an affiliate marketer you brand yourself an authority in your 'niche' market. You build a following of potential customers; and more importantly, you build your own 'group' or workforce of influential network bloggers to help you market your brand or product on the worldwide web.

The onus for success as an online affiliate marketer is more than just choosing the right 'niche' market to promote -- which is popularly defined as an 'evergreen niche' market ( a brand or product that is 'in demand' all-year round and offers 'moderate to high profitability').  To paraphrase, affiliate marketers need to find a brand or product that practically 'sells itself' because it is always in demand for two reasons.  Firstly, it isn't a seasonal product; and secondly, this product has a well-established following of customers and repeat customers.  The popular advice is to 'narrow the focus' until you find a best seller.

In my personal opinion, the onus is on the salesperson.  How many times have you walked into a supermarket or boutique to shop for a particular item; and in turn, you end up shopping everything but the item you initially hand in mind to buy.  This was probably because a salesperson or a promotional ad campaign sparked your interest and changed your mind.

Affiliate marketing is selling other people's brand or products online much in the same way a salesperson operates or a promotional ad campaign works to sell to customers in the marketplace.

In closing, it is my personal opinion that if you can master social media and content writing as a business tool for advertising or marketing the brands and products in your 'niche' market; then you can truly monetize on your expertise, passion or hobby.  You just need to also have a lot of energy, too!  It's a simple strategy or formula you can apply anywhere and anytime.  Affiliate marketers start blogging.  Apply strategies to fulfil objectives.  And this is why it is highly recommended to blog frequently.

How To Apply Strategy To Your Blog Posts

Start a niche-related group on user generated popular blogging platforms where visitors can get help and ask questions.  Direct them to relevant content on your website.  Optimize our posts by editing for unique and relevant title tags, urls and meta descriptions. Post frequently and focus on strategies that work.

Optimize your social media profiles in the same way you would SEO the content in your posts -- add your website link to the various social media pages: About page, Photo descriptions, Comments, Milestones and so on.

Start posting and creating niche-groups at some of the most popular social networks online today -- Facebook, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Reddit. Google search the web to find more blogging sites.

Promote your blog posts to your email list by inserting a one or two links back to your blog posts to increase traffic and leads to your website.

Join popular blogging communities such as CopyBlogger and ProBlogger to network with other bloggers in your niche market.  Regularly comment in order to brand yourself an authoritative blogger in your niche market; and in turn to simultaneously drive referral traffic to your site and cross-promote each other's content and links.

Content Writing

  • Write a few 'landmark posts' (long, authoritative posts) that will drive organic search engine traffic to your site.
  • Use relevant keywords, phrases and long-tailed descriptions to SEO the content.
  • The headlines should grab the reader's attention and entice them to read your post.  But, be careful not to sacrifice clearly well-written content that articulates the benefits of reading your post for sake of creative gimmicks that confuse your readers.
